ALP Phil Weightman (TOP) and Lib Andrew
Trim ... decision pending for
Cleveland
STATE ELECTION: Cleveland
result days away Sunday, 10 September
2006
PRE-POLL
vote counting today could make the result clearer in the
electorate of Cleveland as Labor's Phil Weightman
remains about 300 votes ahead of Liberal Andrew Trim on
a two-party preferred basis.
At the close of counting on election night, neither
side would claim victory, with the Labor's Phil
Weightman being quietly confident he could take over
from retiring Labor Member Darryl Briskey.
Andrew Trim captured the biggest Liberal Party swing
in the election, taking 8 per cent of the 8.7 per cent
margin required to wrestle the seat from Labor.
There are still nearly 7000 votes to be accounted for
in the election, and most of them will be made of
pre-poll and postal voting. However, some Labor Party
workers don't think there will be that many valid votes
outstanding.
At their election night parties, both Mr Trim and Mr
Weightman thanked their close supporters for their help
during the campaign.
